33 Charts

April 15, 2009

If you’ve visited before you’ll notice a change in look and name of this site. What was Parenting Solved has become 33 Charts. I began writing on children’s health issues through Parenting Solved in 2006. While I wrote consistently through much of that time I have found myself over the past few months working to maintain my focus on honest, innovative material. I feel that I need a change.

Through 33 Charts I’m transitioning to a medical blog with some emphasis on social media. While much of my content will appeal to health care professionals, there will hopefully be an audience with e-patients, media professionals, social media types and anyone else curious about the intersection of medicine and web 2.0. I hope to maintain a pattern of clean, focused posts that create thought and dialogue.

If you’re a parent reader I hope you’ve enjoyed the content that I have delivered over the past three years. I’ve enjoyed your feedback. I’ll continue to cover the most compelling children’s health issues but not necessarily from the perspective of a pediatrician writing to a parent. I will keep all of my Parenting Solved content in place for this next generation of parents but it will live happily under 33 Charts.

And why the name 33 Charts? This was the number of charts remaining on my EMR the night I decided to make this transition. I wish the story was more dramatic.

I look forward to your thoughts and insight.

I only recently started following Parenting Solved. Figures that the first post is this one…

As it turns out, the topics you list for 33 Charts are also right up my alley, so I will definately be staying on as a reader. I also took the liberty of following your tweets. :)

Will there be a URL change at some point?

l33t: It's interesting because I had a mix of parents and doctors with Parenting Solved. I just never thought I was focusing on one or the other. I also felt that it was hard to develop community around such a varied group. Twitter has taught me alot about social community. Thanks for commenting

Bryan,

Good luck with the new direction.

"33 Charts" is a snappy name for the blog.

I have to say that I'm very impressed with your writing style and your perspectives. We need more doctors and nurses and other health care professionals who are adept in builing online communities and who understand how best to utilize social software.

I think you might be among the first leaders in health care who truly "gets" the proper roles of social media and I hope you continue to publish remarkable thoughts and questions.

Persevere in your blogging, because we need more quality bloggers who can lead the industry into the 21st Century.

All the best,

Phil

Love the name 33 Charts! Medicine and social media are so heavily intertwined that it’s great that you’ll be focusing on that. Good luck!
Best,
Barbara
