BlackBerry and the Old Narrative

March 7, 2019 By Bryan Vartabedian · Reading Time: < 1 minute

BlackberryI had a patient in my office a couple of months back. His father had left his BlackBerry phone by the sink in my exam room after changing his son’s diaper.

“A Blackberry,” I said as I went to wash my hands. “I haven’t seen one of those in a dog’s age.”

“Oh yeah, can’t live without it,” he said with a wink. “I’m in energy. It’s the best for email.”

I was shocked, really. Blackberry as a ‘best for email’ is a hangover from the early days of the mobile phone. I hadn’t heard this argument since the early 2000’s.

Of course there are other things that hang on:

  • Apple is better for graphics
  • Volvo is the safest car on the road.
  • Upper GI contrast studies diagnose reflux in babies.

Be it branding or diagnostics, the old narrative dies hard with consumers and doctors.

We’re always battling the old rumor.
