Recently I realized that really important people aren’t fixated on their smartphones.
I spent time recently with some very influential people. Higher ups, leaders, mucky mucks. I never saw them look at their smartphones. Next time you’re around a real leader, take note. You would never know that they even own a phone. I suspect they have better things to do.
Those lower on the food chain, however, seem increasingly obsessed with the trivia and immediacy of their digital correspondence.
I wonder what the leaders know?
- Perhaps they understand the relative importance of IRL over virtual interaction.
- Maybe they’re too busy making things to talk about making things.
- They know that email needs to be checked far less frequently than most of us think.
- They understand that we go further when we value people over platforms.
I might conclude that if you want to get ahead, stop looking down.
