There’s never been a better time to be a doctor. There’s never been a time when we have the voice we have.
We have a publishing portal to the world. We can put what we know into audio, video or text where it can live forever. We can teach, influence, sell, reassure, connect, curate and clarify like never before. It’s never been easier to influence the way the world sees and understands health and disease.
This should be the time when physicians define themselves as leaders and teachers. But most of us are defined by our escalating model of busyness. Controlled chaos is a virtue. Too busy and too tired to see beyond the end of a clinic, opportunity is overlooked. As we work to survive the world moves on around us. In our absence there are plenty of others happy to define us.
If you can take a moment to look up there’s never been a better time to be a doctor. Perhaps there’s never been a more important time to be a doctor.
