Creative Confidence – How to Unleash Creative Potential

July 3, 2014 By Bryan Vartabedian · Reading Time: < 1 minutes

creative confidenceI just finished Creative Confidence – Unleashing the Creative Potential Within All of Us.  Written by Dave and Tom Kelley, founders of IDEO, it represents a critical bit of thinking on creativity.

Here’s what you get:  The authors demystify the creative process, represent it as a critical skill for working professionals, and then offer granular steps to achieving creative confidence.

Beyond a look behind the curtain at the processes of the world’s most successful creative consulting organization, the Kelleys deliver a backhanded motivational book that will have you seeing your world quite differently.

Throughout the book I was preoccupied with the thought of how health care would look with the application of solid design thinking shaped with empathy for the patient user.  How would it be if our problems were approached with the round table, anti disciplinary approach taken at IDEO?  In that respect I found the book insanely frustrating.  This, of course, is no fault of the author’s.

Creative Confidence is beautifully written and reads quickly.  Highly recommended.  I’d put this very close to Twyla Tharp’s, The Creative Habit.
